CardioHealth Station: Predict a Heart Attack or Stroke
The CardioHealth® Station has a built-in portable ultrasound system optimized to perform a non-invasive examination of the carotid arteries. It provides an automated real-time measurement of the intima-media thickness (IMT) and allows the user to search for arterial plaques.
Traditional risk factors (cholesterol, HDL, blood glucose, blood pressure, etc.) cannot accurately identify who has asymptomatic atherosclerosis and who needs intensive therapy. According to the American Heart Association, 77% of patients hospitalized for heart disease have normal LDL (“bad cholesterol”) levels and therefore would not have been identified as High Risk.
The incidence of heart attacks in the U.S. approximates 1.3 million annually of which over 650,000 are fatal. The incidence of strokes is 800,000. The majority of heart attacks and strokes occur in people at are asymptomatic by conventional standards like their Framingham Score.According to the American Heart Association there are over 60 million Americans at risk of a heart attack and in need of screening and preventive care.
It is unfortunate that most heart attack victims could have been alerted to their risk and possibly saved if they had known the importance of getting an imaging based assessment of whether their arteries contained plaque or not. But, now we have the ability to alert you to your possible risk.....
